The library media program strives to ensure that all students at Folger:
- Learn information skills based on the Information Problem Solving Model known as the Big 6.
- Use those information skills effectively to solve problems.
- Explore literature and reading to enable them to become lifelong learners.
- Explore literature for the joy of reading.
Students come to the library media center once a week for instruction and to borrow books. The Media Center is also open before school between 9:15 and 9:30 as well as in the afternoon between 3:30 and 4:00. Students in kindergarten may borrow one book each week as long as the book borrowed the previous week is returned. Students in grades 1-5 are allowed from 1 to 3 items depending on the grade level. If a student has overdue items, he/she may select a book to be held in the library until the following morning. Before school starts, the forgotten items may be returned and the new selection checked out. Students are responsible for items checked out and are expected to reimburse the school for lost or damaged items.
The databases used by students for classroom research are also available for home use. The required Passwords are distributed to students in grades 3 through 5 and are available to all other students by request. Students are encouraged to use the databases provided as a safe and accurate source of information for all school projects and information needs. The databases include The World Book Online, Culturegrams, Amazing Animals, and PebbleGo as well as several other resources that are of particular interest to elementary students.
